Welcome Back! If you have chosen to visit this page, chances are that you were in the Cardinal McCloskey Home, in one of our foster care programs, were adopted through Cardinal McCloskey Services or you are an adoptive or birth parent.

We understand that searching for family members is a very important part of the life experience of anyone whose family has been disrupted or has been adopted and we welcome your visit. We always love to hear from those we have worked with and hope that life has been kind to you.

Adoption Searches

1946 - 1971: If you were placed with an adoptive family and adopted before 1972, that adoption was probably arranged through the Catholic Home Bureau. You may want to contact them as well.

1972 -Today: Since 1972, most adoptions of our children have been handled through Cardinal McCloskey although some were supervised by other agencies - particularly those where the placement was out of state. We will likely know which agency if that is the case.

Although we understand how important it is for adoptees to learn about and connect with important people in their past, we are limited by New York State Social Services Law which does not allow us to release identifying information.

We therefore encourage you to contact the NYS Adoption & Medical Information Registry. This registry provides the opportunity for adult adoptees and their family members wishing to find one another to register and be reunited if a match is made. Contact:

There are also several other adoption registries and sites that may be helpful to you as you search.

Foster Care Searches

We receive many calls from those of you who were placed in one of our foster care programs (Institution, Group Home, Foster Boarding Home) since 1946 who are also searching for lost family members. We are happy to help in whatever way we can.

We maintain identifying and family demographic information on all of the children who have been residents of one of our programs, but unfortunately, many case records were destroyed over the past that limits the detail of information we are able to provide. The more recent your placement, the more information we are likely to have.

All requests for family search information should be made in writing to:
